The filming of the long-awaited Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains has begun. The director, Sun Jianjun is on a mission to top the stunts of Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 4, which is also set in Dubai. In fact, there are many similarities between both films, the most obvious being that Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains promises to be an action-thriller with lots of flashy boats and cars, amazing stunts, and breathtaking views of Dubai.

Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains is the first offering from the Chinese movie industry to be filmed internationally. Sun Jianjun told reporters that their film will be much better at representing Dubai’s beauty and unique identity, rather than the cliched view of Arab countries which never seem to lack sandstorms, turbans, and camels. This movie will star Andy Lau, Chiling Lin, and Jingchu Zhang and, with a budget of $20 millions USD, they will have only a fraction of what was spent in the making of MI4. However, the cast seems confident, claiming that they will take advantage of Dubai’s dreamlike qualities to create the “dream film” for China.

Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains is named after an ancient work of art and features a hero that seems straight out of a James Bond of Mission Impossible film. He will be tasked with saving the famed painting in an action-packed feature that will include car and boat chases, helicopters, and the glamour that characterizes the famed city of Dubai. Some of the most iconic locations in this city, such as the Burj Al Arab, the Atlantis, and the Burj Al Khalifa will serve as the backdrop for this upcoming action feature.

The movie will be filmed with a crew and team that has plenty of Hollywood experience. However, Sun Jianjun wants to stay away from typical Hollywood action films. He looks to really bring out the beauty of Dubai, in his words, he wants to portray a Dubai that is “as precious as a pearl.” While the movie will be in Mandarin, versions in Arabic and English will be released for the international market. No official release date has been spoiled, but China’s National Day, October 1, is a likely release for a film with such patriotic overtones.
