“My Way” is a new World War 2 drama from Korea, and is ( loosely) based on a true story. The plot is an account of two childhood rivals who are thrown together in the same unit of WW2. While trying to get over their individual differences and trust each other, they have to survive battle against Russia, Japan, and Germany. Apparently the film was based on a television documentary about these real-life men, but apparently takes some liberties with the truth ( i.e. more explosions).
However, while it might stretch the truth, it’s apparently a damn good movie, filled with great drama as well as some harrowing battle scenes. Having cleaned up at the Korean box office recently ( beating out competition such as “Sherlock Holmes” and “MI:3″), this week it opened in Japan, and was invited to screen at the Berlin International Film Festival, one of the biggest film festivals in the world. The director has been quoted saying, “ It’s an honor and privilege to be invited to the Berlin Film Festival. I hope that the movie will touch not just the Asian movie-watching population, but audiences worldwide”.
This is good news for the flick, as nearly all films that screen at the Festival receive worldwide releases. For those of you in the area for the festival, make sure to check this one out. For the rest of us, expect to hear rumbling of a wide release a bit later this year.
