This month, we are partnering with NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) to showcase Asian and Asian American talent behind and in front of the camera across two programs this month as part of InFocus: Asian Cinema.
The night begins with shorts program InFocus: Asian Cinema – Self-Determination, featuring stories of individual exploration and identity across genres and mediums – contemplative animation, web series, dreamlike and experimental narratives, and narrative drama.
Next, we present InFocus: Asian Cinema – Family Ties, a collection of short films exploring family and generational themes, including a comical and heartfelt story of young woman digging into her family’s past as a topic for her podcast, the culture clash between a woman’s family’s wishes for her to marry soon and who she knows she is, a man torn between his work ethic and his family at home, a mother trying to protect her son, and a young man coping with the loss of his grandmother by searching for a tortoise.
Tickets are $15 for all films with open bar for 7+ hours, but NFMLA would love to give Asian Movie Pulse Members $5 off! Get your discounted tickets now HERE,before it is too late!
